Recording and reporting of assessment

  • Provide the student teacher with an electronic copy of your working mark sheet as well as an example of how formal assessment task marks are recorded. (If you use a mark book, show them how you prepare and organise this for your teaching year.)
  • Explain that teachers are not required to record informal or daily assessment tasks. It may, however, be good practice to record these in certain cases to support the teaching and learning process. These marks are, however, not used on report cards.
  • Show how the recorded formal assessment tasks are included in the final School-Based Assessment (SBA) mark for progression (Grades 1-8) and promotion (Grades 9-12).
