Implementation, assessment, points of view and reflection

Mentor teachers have the responsibility to encourage student teachers to form their own points of view about various aspects of the teaching profession. This section will focus on how mentor teachers can avoid the traps of imprinting their own teaching philosophy on student teachers or simply coaching student teachers through lesson implementation and conducting of assessments.

Mentoring student teachers on putting planning into practice, conducting assessments and considering various points of view about teaching, necessitates a key skill: reflection. The section will therefore pay attention to the importance of reflection on practice.

By the end of this section, you should be able to:

  • Share information on the elements to consider for lesson implemention
  • Guide student teachers towards conducting fair, relevant and valid assessments
  • Suggest to student teachers how to develop their own points of view
  • Share information on the importance of reflection on practice
