Mentoring your student teacher in the implementation of a lesson starts with guidance on how to plan for a lesson. In the discussion on lesson planning (Unit 4.2), we noted that mentor teachers often become frustrated with the lesson plan format student teachers are expected to use. Many regard it as being too detailed, cumbersome and time consuming.  You should point out that, in practice, lesson planning is more streamlined, but remind them, and yourself, that they are still learning and can only benefit from detailed lesson planning.
