Problem solving and classroom management 

Purpose of this unit:
The purpose of this unit is to discuss how to mentor the critical pedagogical knowledge practices of problem solving and classroom management. Both practices are often especially challenging for student teachers and are therefore dealt with in detail.

Outcomes:
By the end of this unit, you should be able to:

  • Explain to what extent initial ‘practice shock’ contributes to young teachers’ leaving the profession
  • Identify a number of factors that influence stress and burnout in teachers
  • Mentor a student teacher facing challenging situations
  • Give a student teacher strategies and tips for efficient classroom management
