Classroom behaviours 2
The following example was taken (and adapted in part) from http://www.discipline.com and includes detailed advice on what action to take when dealing with defiant behaviour. |
The Defier |

BEHAVIOUR:
- Will openly challenge teacher or parents at almost every opportunity
- Talks back
- Dares punishment
- Usually appears unaffected by what teacher says or does and may even laugh at it
- May refuse to accept punishment
- Usually overly critical of teacher's fairness
- Has little self-control, often highly emotional
- Always tries to rationalize or justify what's happening as someone else's fault

EFFECTS:
Neither teacher nor classmates know how to respond to or handle this learner.
Lessons are disrupted.
Rules are challenged.
Classroom is in turmoil and crises arise daily.
Teacher experiences much anguish.
Teacher feels uneasy and may even become ineffective.
Teacher worries about disciplining other learners because she hasn't been successful with the defier.
If the defier's behaviour is allowed to go unchecked, classmates may question the teacher’s fairness whenever they are reprimanded.
