Enabling continued

The learning during the enabling phase is dependent on a climate of mutual trust and respect. The mentor teacher’s role during this phase is to nurture the student teacher’s growth by:

  • maintaining an open and affirming learning climate
  • asking the right questions at the right time
  • providing thoughtful, timely, candid, and constructive feedback (Zachary)

The learning progress and process should be continuously monitored to ensure that learning goals are being met, acknowledged and celebrated.

This figure shows the aspects that the mentor teacher and student teacher share. Note how ‘Engagement in reflection’, ‘Connections’ and ‘Work activity’ overlap. Both parties undergo growth.
