Negotiation continued

Purposeful conversation is essential to arriving at consensus. In a committed relationship the conversation must be cooperative, caring, constructive and have clear intent. Its purpose is an interchange of ideas by human beings wanting to talk, listen and learn from one another. (Roland).

This is the time to add depth and specifics to the broad goals identified during preparation.

Aside from logistical arrangements and a detailed work plan, the final partnership  plan should include:

  • well-defined goals and outcomes
  • criteria and measurements for success
  • clear mutual roles and responsibilities
  • accountability and confidentiality mechanisms
  • protocols for dealing with stumbling blocks
