How you model good practice outside the classroom is every bit as important as in the classroom. |
- Allow your student teacher to accompany you to staff meetings then engage in a short, reflective discussion afterwards.
- Encourage your student teacher to shadow you and assist in extramural activities then engage in a short, reflective discussion afterwards.
- If possible, your student teacher should attend district meetings or cluster moderation meetings with you.
- Allow student teachers to observe how you interact with parents.
- Encourage your student teachers to arrange regular short meetings with fellow student teachers to reflect on their experiences. Arrange with fellow mentor teachers to assist in facilitating these.
