Conclusion

You have now completed Module 5 and should have a much better understanding of:
  • Which modelling mistakes to avoid
  • How to model good practices effectively

In reality, it is impossible for any mentor teacher to model perfect practice at all times, but the challenge to mentor teachers is to become much more aware of what you do and how you do it. Self-awareness is crucial. Good mentor teachers will want to learn and develop their own practice. Mentoring is hard work!

Reflect on the following quote by Maya Angelou and the opportunity you have to encourage, to guide, to inspire.

This is the value of the [mentor] teacher, who looks at a face and says there's something behind that and I want to reach that person, I want to influence that person, I want to encourage that person, I want to enrich, I want to call out that person who is behind that face, behind that colour, behind that language, behind that tradition, behind that culture. I believe you can do it! I know what was done for me.
