Conclusion

Congratulations on completing Module 2!

Civil War veteran Robert Ingersoll said, “We rise by lifting others”.  Mentoring is not an easy process.  Yes, it is time consuming and, yes, it will drain you emotionally but the reward at the end of the process will uplift you.  At the worst moments in the student teachers’ life, when they aren’t quite sure how they are going to get through another day, let alone move forward, they will turn to you for reassurance. The smallest act of kindness, patient listening, well-timed advice, or a recognition of achievement will make all the difference.

You have now completed Module 2 and should have a much better understanding of:

  • How to begin, maintain and complete the relationship with your student teacher
  • An effective framework for a mentor teacher
  • The stages in the mentoring relationship
  • Your own potential as a mentor teacher
  • Any gaps in your own mentoring skills that require attention or further development

Unit 2.4 is an optional opportunity to explore the issue of Teacher Identity more thoroughly. You may choose to continue with Unit 2.4 or skip ahead to Module 3.
Module 3 will explore the Eco-system in which the student teacher must operate.
