Example 3 - Demonstrate a learner-centred approach

Set up an uninterrupted discussion time with your student teacher to look at designing collaborative learning activities in which learners interact with the material, the teacher and each other.

Consider the following in your discussion:

  • Collaborative learning is said to attain higher level thinking and preserve information for longer times than when learners work individually. Why would this be so?
  • Groups tend to learn through ´discussion, clarification of ideas, and evaluation of other’s ideas´. In your opinion, is information which is discussed retained more easily than that which is not?
  • Learners who demonstrated lower levels of achievement seem to improve when working in diverse groups. Why is this so?
