Oral feedback

  • Time may not allow for extensive, immediate feedback, but make at least a few informal, constructive comments at the end the lesson. The student teacher is likely to welcome immediate feedback.
  • Communicate detailed formal feedback at a set time, for example at the end of the day.
  • Be encouraging and give praise when praise is due.
  • Allow the student teacher to comment and listen attentively.
  • Do not shy away from criticism. Keep it specific, relevant and to the point. If your criticism is appropriately motivated and emphatically expressed, your student teacher will experience it as positive and constructive.
