How to prepare for feedback

Key parts of mentoring include observation of student teachers and giving feedback to them on their performance and progress. Both oral and written feedback are essential in facilitating the student teacher’s reflection on practice. Important aspects a mentor teacher should consider are:
- establishing expectations
- reviewing the student teacher’s lesson plan prior to teaching
- providing timeous oral and written feedback
- facilitating guided self-reflection by the student teacher
